Strange Political Activities at the FBI Records Vault Twitter Account

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is reportedly investigating a series of seemingly political posts or “tweets” to social media website Twitter. According the the exclusive at Think Progress:

ThinkProgress has learned that the FBI’s Inspection Division will undertake an investigation of the account. Candice Will, Assistant Director for the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility, said she was referring the matter to the FBI’s Inspection Division for an “investigation.” Upon completion of the investigation, the findings will be referred back to the the Office of Professional Responsibility for “adjudication.”

On October 28, 2016, FBI Director James Comey suddenly reopened a recently closed investigation of a private email account by Secretary of State and current presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Two days later, mysterious political tweets showed up at Twitter:

For over a year, the official verified FBI Twitter account @FBIRecordsVault lay dormant. Suddenly on October 30, 2016, the account came back to life, providing a bunch of new document dumps.

The first dump involves Fred Trump, the father of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. The release included a listing of Fred Trump’s property holdings. The FBI described Fred Trump generously as a “philanthropist.” There was nothing notable for the 2016 election in the file.

After a number of additional tweets, the last dump involved a closed investigation of the Clinton Foundation. The release was so highly redacted as to create nothing but suspicion over the activities of the foundation.
